If you read my blog entry “day four” you read the original version of this poem. This poem was finalized and memorized less than two weeks before the performance. This performance is from the 2019 Individual World Poetry Slam in San Diego, Ca. I placed 3rd that night. Thank you to my mentors and teammates that gave me feedback on this piece (Rudy, Imani, Javon, Natasha & Chrissy). I am eternally grateful to Button Poetry for giving this poem, their platform. I hope this piece sparks change in the mental health field. We need it.
